‘Emotionally uplifting and sustaining, the natural way’
Science has given us the ability to explain the world in natural terms. We no longer need to use the supernatural, gods, or a higher power to explain the physical world or our complicated inner lives. For answers and guidance, we can rely upon our higher cognitive powers such as intuition, creativity, reason, and our capacity for learning. As Secular Humanist, we stand for democracy, freedom, personal responsibility, and self actualization.
Secular Humanist recognize the evolution of the Human Race as a work in progress. We strive to be better people by behaving with common decency, good manners, and tolerance towards others. Through self discipline we strive to control our emotions, impulses, and desires. We attempt to increase our motivation and creativity through positive affirmations. Growing out of narcissism and having empathy for others is a central idea of Secular Humanism.
The self-conscious ability of humans is one of our greatest evolutionary gifts. The downside of self-consciousness is emotional suffering.
